Along the route, you will enjoy majestics now-capped mountains and cultivated lands. After about an hour and a half of travel, we will arrive at Ollantaytambo to board the train that will take us to km 104 (Chachabamba at 2,200 meters above sea level), where we will start the ancestral Inca trail, visiting the archaeological groups of Chachabamba and Choquesuyuy hidden in the subtropical forest. We will ascend the mountain, enjoying spectacular landscapes of flora and fauna. After approximately three hours of walking, we will reach the archaeological site of Wiñayhuayna (2,650 m.a.s.l.), which we will also explore. This archaeological complex was discovered in 1942 by the Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello. It is a beautiful Inca construction located in the Vilcabamba mountain range. According to archaeological studies, it is called “Little MachuPicchu” due to its layout, which resembles the Machu Picchu citadel. This site provides an excellent example of Inca agriculture, with numerous circular terraces along its slopes where the Incas cultivated their crops. Its name comes from an orchid abundant in the area, meaning “eternally young” in Spanish. We will take a short break here and enjoy lunch. Wiñayhuayna has more than 20 buildings, one of which is called the Rainbow Temple, also known as the Temple of Fertility. The tour will continue toward the Intipunku viewpoint(Sun Gate), where you canobserve a wide variety of flora suchas orchids, ferns, mosses, etc. After about an hour, we will finally arrive at Inti Punku, or the Sun Gate, one of the most impressive view points of MachuPicchu, located 1km from the archaeological site. After a brief rest and photos, we will take the MachuPicchu tourist bus to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night at a hotel. DAY2: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO After breakfast at the hotel, following your MachuPicchu entrance ticket schedule, and coordinating with the guide, you will take the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu (altitude 2,450 m.a.s.l.), a 30-minute ascent approximately.
